Former Nigeria national team handler, Gernot Rohr has disclosed that his erstwhile employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF did not “study his contract properly” before sacking him, Bestchoicesports.com.ng

The German Coach was sacked by the NFF in December 2021 less than 3 weeks to the commencement of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Cameroon. Rohr had signed a new contract with the federation in June 2020 that would have seen him remain in charge until 2022 World Cup

Then president of the federation, Amaju Pinnick had said that Rohr was sacked in order to “avoid a disaster”.

But Mr Right has come out to say that the FA did not study his contract properly before taking the decision to sack him.

Rohr was giving the mandate to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar and to also secure the country’s fourth continental crown in Cameroon.

Robe who noted that the targets werr almost realizable, added that if NFF had waited for him to finish his AFCON campaign, they would have been in a better position to sack him without paying him off if he failed to win athe trophy

“Amaju Pinnick said that I was sacked to avoid a disaster [for the Super Eagles]… But everybody can see that without me, there was a disaster. These are the facts.”

“There was no rationale for sacking me, as they did, because if I had gone to the AFCON and not won it or if I had not qualified for the World Cup, they could have ended my contract without paying me anything

“But they are paying up my contract in full now. | don’t think they studied my contract properly,
before taking their decision.” he said in a chat with Osasu Obayiuwana.

FIFA in May this year ordered the NFF to pay the former Eagles coach $377,879.46 (N157m) then in compensation after he was shown the exit door just a month before the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in January.

Despite moves by the NFF to pay his salary until the end of his contract, which should have expired in December 2022, Rohr, the Eagles’ longest-serving coach, took the case to FIFA, demanding an additional £1m for breach of contract “without just cause” but FIFA instead approved $377,879.46.

Super Eagles were eliminated from the tournament in the Round of 16 after losing 1-0 the Tunisia and also failed the qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after drawing 1-1 in Ghana. The Black Stars progressed on an away goal
