NFF Set To Appoint Janne Anderson as New Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF is set to appoint Janne Anderson as the new national team coach

Anderson, Swedish, recently served as Sweden senior men’s national team from 2016 to November 2023.

The 61-year-old failed to qualify Sweden for the past two major tournaments, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 European Championship hosted by Germany but won by Spain leading to his departure last year.

He resigned from his job after failing to help Sweden qualify for the Euro 2024…for the first time in over two decades.

The contractual documents with NFF are not known yet however, Mr Anderson is expected to be announced by the federation this week.

NFF’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen had told newsmen in Abuja last week that the new coach would be announced this weekend.

He will be replacing Findi George who resigned from his appointment early in June following poor performances.

Anderson has no African football history as he has never managed an African nation prior.

Interestingly, Janne Andersson’s immediate task is to qualify the country to the 2025 AFCON.

His first two official matches will be three weeks from now, first against Benin in Uyo on September 7 and then on 10 take on Rwanda in Kigali.

The match between Benin Republic and Nigeria will hold at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State bu 5pm.
