Niger Tornadoes gained promotion after they played a goalless draw against Gombe United in matchday 3 of the ongoing NNL Super 8 play-off in Enugu.

The Two teams went into the match aware that a draw will guarantee them a ticket to the 2021/2022 NPFL season.

Playing at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus, UNEC field on Saturday, the two teams were unable to find the back of the net as they settled the scores goalless thus giving them edge over 3rd-placed El Kanemi Warriors.

El Kanemi Warriors defeated DMD FC in the other match played at the same time at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Niger Tornadoes remained top of the Group A Northern Conference of the Super 8 play-off with 5 points while Gombe United were second with same number of points.

El Kanemi Warriors came 3rd after they thrashed DMD FC 3-0 to leave them rooted at the bottom with 1 point from three matches.

Niger Tornadoes last played in the NPFL in the 2017/2018 season.

It is hoped that with the state government continued support, the 2017 FA Cup finalists would make the NPFL their place of permanent abode.
