A Nigerian National League side, Road Safety Football Club was Friday, May 28 attacked by bandits in Niger State, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The players and officials were attacked on their way to honour their 2020/2021 NNL league match with Kebbi United, in Kebbi State

Bestchoicesports.com.ng gathered that the attack happened at Zungeru a suburb area in Niger state.

An eyewitness told this paper that no player nor official of the club was hurt in the attack by the bandits.

An assistant coach of the side, David Emmanuel told this paper in an interview that the club officials and players were 150m away from the bandits when they got information that they were attacking, robbing and taken people hostage.

He added that the team followed the road to link up to Katangora and from there go to Kebbi State for their match today.

“None of us was hurt. We were about 100 or 150m away from them, so we turned. There were shootings, corpses littered ground and they were taking people on hostage.

“The luck we had is that some people who escaped from the attack were rushing back and told us to turn.

“We were almost going into them. We, the officials, were the ones ahead and the players were behind us, so when we got the bad information, we told them to turn as well,” he said.

He added that the bandits took over the road throughout yesterday. Noting that the attack started from morning.

It was understood that the Road Safety club have communicated to the management of the NNL and they are working on rescheduling the match.

Nigeria has in recent times be battling with insecurity across the country with many Nigerians either being abducted and ransom paid or are killed by the bandits.
