By Amaechi Agbo
Former Nigeria lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has described the outing of Team Nigeria at the 32nd edition of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan as ”disappointing and disgraceful,” bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
Team Nigeria at the 2020 Olympics have won two medals, a bronze and a silver thus far at the Olympics with both coming from long jump and wrestling.
But the former Senator who represented Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, said the medals are not befitting of a country with population like Nigeria.
Drawing comparison with Jamaica with a population of 2.9 million people who won gold medals and Nigeria with 201 million, he noted that with all the money and population, Nigeria could not claim a single gold at the Olympics.
“Jamaica a small country wining Gold medals and here we are with all the money and population; a disappointing and disgraceful Olympic outing,” the human rights activities said on his Facebook page.
As the 32nd Summer Olympics climaxes on Sunday, August the 8th, Nigeria is currently placed 68th on the medals table with two medals – silver and bronze.
Jamaica has 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze making a summation of 7 medals to be placed 21st on the log.
China, USA and Japan are the top 3 Nations at the Games with a total of 71, 83 and 40 medals respectively.
