NNL Matchday 12: Nnewi United Returns To Winning Ways
By Akin Bolarinwa
Anaedo Lions returned to winning ways, shrugged off painstaking 1-0 defeat to Delta Force via vicious officiating by center referee Adebayo Moronkeji of Lagos referee council in Ogwashi-Uku in penultimate weekend.
Nnewi United rose to the occasion with another impressive show over the weekend at Rojenny International Stadium Oba, Anambra State, pipping hard fighting Dynamites Force of Edo 1-0 through a 65th minute beauty of a world class header by experienced prolific striker Sochima Elum after a scoreless first half.
The highly competitive game saw the Anaedo Lions dominating the greater part of the game with purposeful attacking football anchored by two signings; Iheanacho and Sochima who made their debut and were consistent threats to the Dynamites back line.
The full time scoreline however did not in any way reflect the true nature of the game as two factors; wasting of succesive clear goal scoring opportunities by Nnewi United and excellent goal keeping by Dynamites tall and agile keeper, Ganiyu, were chiefly responsible for that.
The high point of the match remains the fair and firm officiating by centre referee Jinad O. from Ogun State referee Council despite the fact that he denied the home team what appears to be a penalty in 72nd minute.
Summarily, the coming of Coach Fancy Ewulu coupled with the managerial abilities of CEO/Sporting Director, Olisa Onuchukwu are manifesting positively in the rejuvenated Nnewi United FC.
