Nigeria’s Super Falcons will battle the Lucy of Ethiopia today in a crucial Olympic Games 2024 qualification match.

With the first leg of the encounter last week ending draw, the Super Falcons are under immense pressure to scale the Ethiopians hurdle in Abuja latter today.

NIgeria Falcons have failed to feature in Olympic Games football event in 12 years.

The last time the ladies featured at he Olympics was in Beijing, China, 2008 edition.

They have failed to qualify for the previous three editions and with the second round of the qualifiers holding across the continent this week, the team, without head coach, Randy Waldrum will file out against the Lucy ladies of Ethiopia at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja today in a match they must win to progress to the third and round.

In Waldrum’s absence, assistant Coach Justine Madugu, will stand in for him and expressed optimism that the ladies are aware of the task ahead.

“The girls are really committed and very determined to ensure that this time around they qualify for the Olympics,” Madugu emphasized.

“It is because they know what it means to Nigerians, having built a reputation for themselves in the last World Cup, which would be the standard with which they would be judged.

“We do not have any reason not to be at the Olympics.”

Ethiopia’s senior girls will be no pushovers, as the team defeated their counterparts from Chad 10-0 on aggregate in the first round to be eligible to square up to the Super Falcons. They defeated Chad 6-0 in Addis Ababa and followed up with a 4-0 lashing of their hosts in N’Djamena a few days later.

Tuesday’s encounter at the MKO Abiola National Stadium will commence at 4pm.
