He was among the players journalists, football followers were certain he would make the cut when the official list of the Flying Eagles names was released ahead of the 2020 West Africa Football Union Zone B tournament in Benin Republic

Sadly, his name was conspicuously missing when coach Ladan Bosso released the official list of his players for the tournament.

Although the team went to Benin, played but crashed out of the 2021 Africa U-20 Nations Cup to be held in Mauritania, Obinna martin Okere has let the disappointment of not being selected by the coaching crew for the national team behind him as a new vista has been opened in his life.

Speaking with Bestchoicesports.com.ng Thursday in Abuja at the ongoing Kenneth Omeruo Football Academy screening progrmme, Obinna Martin said the disappointment of not being selected by the team handlers was a blessing in disguise.

The 19-year-old midfielder noted that he would work hard to make Nigeria and his family proud.

 “It (Not being selected by the Flying Eagles) is a blessing in disguise and I am very grateful to God,” the lanky player stared.

“I did not feel bad about my not joining the team. And their not qualifying for the U-20 Nations Cup is football. You win some, you lose some. That is football.

“My plans are to do well to make the country and my family proud

“I don’t regret not being selected by Fly Eagles. I will work hard in CD Leganes,” he said.

Speaking on if he would love to play for the country when called upon considering now that it was proven that the coaches did not do enough by dropping him for the team, Obi said “It will be a great delight for me to represent my country.
