It’s more than two months since the Ibrox giants secured their 55th Scottish league title, but the wait to actually lift the trophy was over on Saturday following their victory over Aberdeen on the final day of an utterly dominant campaign.

And they did it in style, too, capping off their stunning season with a 4-0 win which made them Invincibles.

Gerrard’s side have set the bar high throughout the campaign but this was a landmark victory in more ways than one for Rangers.

Other than getting hold of their first Scottish league title in a decade, the win over Aberdeen saw them break the 100 point barrier – ending the season on 102 points.

And among the players who were instrumental in achieving this glorious history are Nigerians – Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun.

Although Balogun was not listed for the Saturday last game of the league, his compatriot, Aribo was in action for the duration of the match.

The win is the 55th titles the Light Blues are recording while they first achieved invincible in 1898 were they won the league winning all their matches – no draw, no loss.

Rangers is the second-most successful club in world football in terms of trophies won, second only to Egyptian club Al Ahly.

The club has won the Scottish League title 55 times, a domestic league world record, the Scottish Cup 33 times, the Scottish League Cup a record 27 times and the domestic treble on seven occasions, a joint world record shared with rivals Celtic.

Rangers won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972 after being losing finalists twice, in 1961 (the first British club to reach a UEFA tournament final) and 1967. A third runners-up finish in European competition came in the UEFA Cup in 2008.

Leon Balogun is contracted to Rangers until the summer of 2022 while Aribo will remain with the club until at least the summer of 2023.
