Chairman, FCT Football Coaches Association, Godwin Bamigboye has said that the reigning Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria do not need foreign coach to handle the team, Bestchoicesports.com.ng report.

Mr Bamignoye who was the chairman, Marketing Committee of the FCT FA Tuesday commended the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF for their efforts to engage a new coach for the ladies but noted that the search for a new coach is long overdo.

Coach Bamigboye advised the NFF to recruit an indigenous coach, preferably a female coach with technical know-how to manage the team.

He noted that in view of the ravaging coronavirus that have disrupted every human activity globally, NFF should avoid capital flight and engage indigenous coaches and give them necessary support to excel.

“I commend the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their effort to recruit a Coach or Technical Adviser for the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

“Though the appointment of a Coach for the team is long overdue but the decision is commendable. However, it is my opinion that the NFF should beam their searchlight on indigenous coaches and preferably women who have the capacity to handle the women elite team.

“The immediate assistant of the Coach should be a man with the technical depth and experience in coaching women football.

“My preference for indigenous coaches stems from the fact that since the inception of women football competition in Africa, Nigeria has dominated the scene through the effort of Nigerian Coaches to the extent that it will take more than two decades for any African Country to catch up with the record of Nigeria in women football. What is left to do is to plan towards the performance of our various female national teams so that the technical and tactical capacity of our indigenous coaches will be improved to meet up with the challenges at the world stage.

“The reasons our women team are not dominating football at the global level, I believe, are known to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) through their technical reports after these major events.
Therefore, the indigenous coaches to be employed must be there on merit. Such Coaches should have the courage and technical expertise to tell the administrator in a respectful manner at any given time the right thing to do to excel.

“The NFF must also pay adequate attention to the teams and MUST not undermine the indigenous coach by given him directives against the technical focus or direction of the technical crew,” he said.

He called on all football lovers to also join him to advise the Football authority to leave the remaining coaching vacancies in the national teams for indigenous coaches, who he expressed confidence, “have capacity to efficiently and effectively coach the teams.

“The global pandemic, covid-19 calls for prudent spending. Therefore, we should avoid capital flight by engaging our indigenous coaches in our national teams,” he said.

Super Falcons are the most successful team in Africa with nine victories; 8 of these victories were recorded by indigenous coaches.
