SWAN Inter-secondary School Table Tennis Championship Serves Off Friday in Enugu

All is now set for the maiden edition of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, (Enugu Chapter) Urban Inter Secondary School Table Tennis Championship tagged “Catch-them-young”, scheduled to take place on the 4th, 5th and 6th July, at the Indoor Gymnasium Sports Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
The competition which is in collaboration with Enugu State Table Tennis Association, ESTTA, will witness 13 secondary schools from different parts of the metropolis, exhibit scintillating and exceptional tennis skills under the watchful eyes of some tennis mentors and coaches in the state.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, a passionate sports enthusiast and Sponsor of the program, Evangelist JohnGold Chiekezie, emphasized the significance of investing in young people through sports, calling on those in the private sector to get involved.
Also Speaking, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Chibuzor Nwoye, noted that the competition will avail the players the opportunity not just to compete but to synergize and interact with other players from other schools.
According to him, the first day of the competition will see the players undergoing verification, screening and documentation exercise, just as the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, who is guest of honor will engage the Acting Chairman of the ETTA, Stephen Agali, in the opening ceremony.
Nwoye further hinted that every participating school will present one player, warning that serious sanctions will be meted out to any erring school.
Prize money, trophy and medals will be presented to outstanding players and their various schools.
