By Chika Chukwumerije
The Binga-led Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has unveiled a mammoth three-month event calendar after opening the doors to seasoned taekwondo event organizers to host and organize events on behalf of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation.
The innovative solution has seen a whooping 23 programs approved across four regions in the nation as the Federation reaches out to more organizers to woo them to buy into the nationwide program.
In return for hosting and organizing the event, the Federation will provide promotion services, letters of authorizations and other support services for the organizers, who may include state taekwondo associations and clubs.
The initiative, which is being coordinated by three-time Olympian, Chika Chukwumerije will also require organizers to organize the event in line with laid-down standard protocols that conform with the Federation event organization guidelines.
Some organizations that have already taken up the offer to host and organize the national events include: Lagos State Taekwondo Association, Ahmadu Bello University, Enugu State Taekwondo Association, Zamfara State Taekwondo Association, FCT-based New Grake Fitness Centre.
So far, the event calendar features kiddies, cadets, juniors and seniors event in poomsae and kyorugi events, with a couple more organizations expected to take up the challenge to host, organize and funds more national events in the coming weeks.
All the events are designated national events that are open to participation from taekwondo practitioners from all parts of the country.
With the federation’s focus on the Olympic games and preparations of Tokyo 2020 bound Elizabeth Anyanacho, the calendar eliminates the fears of the nigeria taekwondo community who are usually starved of programs during lead up to major international events.
