Canadian Eugenie Bouchard has announced she is taking an indefinite break from tennis in order to ‘get healthy’. The former World No. 5 slipped to a low of 194th in the world rankings in June last year but has since clawed her way back to 76th in the rankings.

After starting the year encouragingly, with a quarterfinal appearance in Auckland and Newport, Bouchard has now lost five out of her past six matches and she failed to qualify for last fortnight’s Miami Open, losing to 119th ranked Nao Hibino from Japan in three sets.

Earlier Bouchard announced she would miss the tournament in Monterrey and now the 25 year old has also confirmed she will miss this week’s WTA Tour event in Bogota, Colombia, raising doubts about her French Open campaign.
