Weightlifting Federation: Athletes’ Welfare, Competitions Are My Priority – Adenike, Rep.

Athletes representative in the board of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF Ms Olarinoye Adijat Adenike has stated that her priority going into the board is to ensure that athletes get as many competitions as they can in a year as well as see to their welfare needs.

Ms Adenike who is a weightlifter, disclosed this while chatting with www.bestchoicespirts.com.ng after her election in Abuja over the weekend.

The young weightlifter noted that she will synergise with the board and leadership of the NWF to ensure that more competitions are organised for the athletes in a year.

She started by expressing gratitude to the people who voted for her during the Technical/Athletes Representatives election held in Abuja on Saturday last week.

“I am very happy with the result of the election and I want to thank those who believed in me. It was a contest and one person has to win.

“Although the margin of the result was very close, it showed that we have credible people in the federation to move weightlifting forward.

“My going to the board is to ensure that the welfare of the athletes are taking care of and also push for the federation to be having up to 4 compettions in a year.

“If this is granted, it will help greatly in discovering and grooming young weightlifters for the country,” she said.

Ms Adenike defeated Mamdun Seldum Dickson by 15 votes to 14 in a keenly contested election to emerge winner.

The election was held at the Gymnastics Indoor Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja
