Why Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr Should Be Sacked Now
The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria who has come under fire since his reappointment as the super eagles coach in May 2020 is now facing a new outcry for his immediate sack over what is termed as a breach of contract.
Rohr, who has been in charge of Nigeria’s men’s national team since August 2016 and was reappointed faced similar outcry with a lacklustre performance again Sierra Leone when they gave up 4-0 lead to settle for a 4-4 draw.
The latest call for his sack is based on a breach in his contractual term
Under the terms of the new deal, Rohr is expected to spend the majority of the year living in Nigeria, take a pay cut, and be paid in local currency and to go round to watch the NPFL games with a view to help the local league.
However, Rohr has failed to live here in Nigeria, failed to watch most of the star games. ( he has only watch Rivers united vs Enyimba game which was a Continental match)
And only managed to call up 2 players from the NPFL after so many protest
And the worst reason for the call for his sack is the recent interview he granted when he said he want to coach a club side even when he is still under contract with Nigeria that he wants to help Bordeaux avoid relegation if called upon.
The Girondins are gradually sinking into the drop zone following their recent poor performances and the club legend is willing to assist the side
Nigeria national team coach Gernot Rohr has volunteered to help Bordeaux avoid relegation if called upon.
The Girondins are currently enduring a difficult time, having failed to secure victory in their last four games, including suffering a 3-0 defeat against Monaco on Sunday.
“I have always been the man of the club. Currently, I am under contract with Nigeria. But if it is to help the Girondins, I will always be available.
“We have to make the club sparkle and we need a really combative and united team. Coach Gasset also unfortunately seems a little lost in this situation. He must have tried a lot of things already, he still has the experience,” Rohr told France Bleu.
“We didn’t give up, we reacted but what we see is that the results are still just as catastrophic and that you concede three or four goals. It’s still difficult to always say the same thing.
Rohr has managed a number of teams – club and country – from Bordeaux, Nice, Young Boys, Ajaccio, Etoile du Sahel, Nantes, Gabon, and Niger to Burkina Faso.
Rohr was the manager of the Girondins when they avoided relegation in the 1995-1996 season and recollected how they achieved the feat, warning it will be disastrous if the club dropped to Ligue 2.
He has stayed in his job for more than a year only three times, as his managerial career is punctuated by sackings and fall-outs with the hierarchy
Only in Nigeria has he stayed this long and if allowed to continued will be the longest serving coach without any trophy to show.
At the world cup Spain sacked their coach Julen Lopetegui for disclosing he will be moving to Real Madrid just 2 days to the world cup.
Nigeria can’t be a dumping ground. We have local coaches who can do better. So should not be taken for a ride
