The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Women Super League season returned to action on Monday April 19th, 2021 after a year of inactivity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s edition of the women league comprises ten teams divided into two groups in the normal season. The league is taking place at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru in Buikwe district.

In the opening fixture, Makerere University suffered their first loss to Uganda Martyrs’ Ladies 1-0 through Kevin Nakacwa 70th minute penalty. While Kawempe Muslim thrashed Kampala Queens 4-0 after a brilliant performance. Kawempe goals came through Margaret Kunihira, Rhoda Nanziri, and Hadijja Nandago brace.

Decolus Kiiza, FUFA Deputy CEO in charge football, said the league will be played in two phases, with Group A playing from 19 – 25 April, while Group B takes over from 26 April – 1 May 2021.

“It will be one group at a time as we don’t have enough space at Njeru,” he said, adding that top two teams of each group qualify to the semifinals. “The semi-finals and final will be played on 3 and 5 May respectively.”

The last edition of the women league was cancelled prematurely after COVID-19 outbreak, and no team was awarded the championship.
