Many Nigerians have questioned the style and play adopted by the Super Falcons in their Tuesday 2020 Olympic qualifying match against Algeria in Lagos with some questioning the inclusion of foreign-based players to the team after the home-based ladies had done the job in Blida last week.

However, Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has explained why Nigeria managed a slim 1-0 victory over Algeria in the second leg, second round of the 2020 Olympic Games qualifiers on Tuesday in Lagos

Nigeria beat Algeria 3-0 on aggregate after a 2-0 win in the first leg to qualify for the third round of qualifiers for the women’s football event at the 2020 Olympics.

Oshoala missed the first leg in Blida, but her 59th minute lone strike at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, saw the Super Falcons through, and she has explained why the goals did not flow in.

“This was our first game together after the World Cup. It’s been really difficult and it’s not the whole team, as we just had home-based players, with a few overseas-based players.

“For us to be together for just three days, I think it was not enough for us to put something out,” she said.

The Barcelona striker said the Falcons would not underrate their next opponents, saying there was no guarantee that the Nigerian team would win.

“I don’t think there is anything like guarantee when it comes to football professionally because each team gets better every year. We just need to continue giving our best in subsequent games and make sure we work harder,” she added.
