The FCT Football Association Chairman, Adam Mouktar Mohammed, has disclosed why the newly elected Executive Board decided to visit former occupier of the seat and former Nigeria Football Federation President, Alahaji Sani Lulu Abdulahi, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
The Chairman who was elected into office barely two weeks ago on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Kogi State governorship aspirant in his academy office, Fosla Academy based in Karshi, Abuja
The Chairman and two of his delegates arrived the academy around 10;30 for the visit scheduled to take place by 11am.
In an interview with our correspondent after the meeting that lasted for hours including a football match between the academy’s U-15 and U13, Mr Mohmmed said the board visited him as their first official engagement since it came into office because he is a father to football not just in the FCT but in the entire federation.
He noted that Alhaji Lulu has done a lot for Nigeria football which are evidenced on the various projects embarked upon when he held different positions in sports and football administration including being former Director of Sports in the FCT from where he rose to become the FCT FA Chairman and then President, NFF from 2006 to 2010.
“He is a father figure in Nigeria football, he has achieved so much, he was FCT FA chairman, he was Director of Sports in the FCT and then he was the President of Nigeria Football Federation. He has been in various international bodies in football and sports across the world. So our visit to him is part our plans to pay him homage or respect and express our decision for partnership in this noble project that he has embarked upon in Fosla Academy which is giving education to kids and giving them technical training for football.
“These are the kind of projects that we must support as a board; personally I have huge interest in such football development initiatives,” he said.
A board member who was part of the visit, Abimbola Smauel, also said that they visited him in recognition of his father figure in Nigeria football and the need to tap from his wealth of experience in football management as the new Board prepares for the task of improving the state of football in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Honour must be given to whom it is due. Lulu was the number one football man the country and he still is by is current antecedents. It is on this and the father he is to all of us that the new FCT FA Chairman decided to pay him a homage. To show him solidarity and tap from his wealth of experience and also solicit for his support to the new FCT FA board. We need his fatherly advice and support to move football in the FCT to a greater height, the forer Flying Eagles assistant coach said.
