Ndidi and Jame Madison scored a goal apiece as Leicester City went on top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night.

A dominant start by Leicester saw them rewarded by a sixth-minute goal from Wilfried Ndindi. The home side had won a free-kick just outside the Chelsea box. The free kick’s sent down the left to Barnes, whose deep cross was chested out for a corner on the right by Abraham. Leicester played it short between Maddison and Albrighton, the latter cutting back for Ndidi, who from the edge of the box creamed a sensational first-time shot off the left-hand post and into the net.

Leicester went on to dominate with Maddison seeing his shot clip the bar on its way out before Chelsea could gain momentum. Their crisp pass was awarded a free-kick just at the edge of the box after Johny Evans had tripped Pulisic with the referee pointing to the spot. The decision was however reversed after a VAR check.

The Foxes knew a win would see them overhaul Manchester United and they were on their way after only six minutes when Wilfred Ndidi fired in off the inside of the post from 20 yards.

Chelsea rarely threatened, although they were denied a first-half penalty by VAR when Christian Pulisic went down under a challenge from Jonny Evans, only for the technology to confirm the offence took place just outside the area.

Lampard’s misery was swiftly reinforced as Leicester City broke clear to add a second four minutes before the break, James Maddison sweeping a cool finish past Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy on the half-volley from Marc Albrighton’s pass.

Chelsea barely raised a gallop after the break and it was Leicester who created the better openings as James Justin headed wide when unmarked and Mendy saved from Youri Tielemans.

Leicester are now a point ahead of Manchester United having played a game more while Chelsea are in eighth, five points off the Champions League places.

LEICESTER BOSS BRENDAN Rodgers: “You have seen the real spirit of the side tonight. We were a real threat going forward.

“The performance and maturity of the team was pleasing. I knew we were playing against a talented team and we had to be right on our game.”

Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard: “There are players who are not playing as well as they should be, that’s a simple fact.

“I’m disappointed with both the goals. We know we can compete with Leicester when we are playing well but when you go 2-0 down and you are in a difficult period of form it affects the game hugely.

“The players know they were beaten by a better team, a team we are behind and one we want to catch. The general theme of our performance was slow and sluggish.”
