The Senate Committee on Sports in Nigeria, Friday called on Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr to leave the team adding that the German gaffer has failed to live up to expections since he was engaged by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, three years ago, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The committee said Rohr lacks the capacity to coach Super Eagles to win matches and tournaments.

Chairman of the Committee and Senator representing Ebonyi Central zone, Chief Obinna Ogba, stated this while speaking with journalists in Abakaliki during south east sports stakeholders seminar held in the state capital.

Ogba regretted that the Super Eagles coach has failed to harness abundant talents in the nation’s football. He therefore urged the coach to leave the senior National team saying that it is not a must that he continues handling the Super Eagles.

He said “It is not the issue of everybody wants him back. But Nigerians are not the managers of the Nigerian football, you need to find out whether the managers of Nigerian football, NFF wants him back.

“As a good coach, they have given you conditions. The only thing left for you is to accept and reject the ones you don’t like. The ones you don’t like you reject them and the ones you like you accept them. It is not a must that he coaches the Nigerian team.

“I am one of those who believes that the man has finished his time, he needs to go because he doesn’t have something to offer. Nigeria has talented players but he fails to use them to prosecute matches and tournaments.

“Look at what happened at the World Cup. 10mins to go and a coach doesn’t know what to do to win that match. For that match alone, I think he should leave”.

Gernot Rohr was unveiled as Super Eagles handler on August 9, 2016.

He won his first game in charge of the national team, defeating Tanzania by a lone goal in Uyo , Nigeria.

He lost his first match on 10 June, as Nigerian senior coach after a 2–0 home loss to South Africa.

On 7 October 2017, his Super Eagles team became the first African side to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after a 1–0 win against Zambia where they crashed out in group stage after losing tow matches against Croatia and Argentina and won one against surprise debtants, Iceland

On 17 July 2019, Rohr led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt

Overall, Rohr has played a total of 49 matches since his engagement as Super Eagles manager with 29 wins, 11 draws and 9 losses as at November 2019.
