FIFA U20 W/Cup: Swedish Club Rejects NFF Request To Release Midfielder
Swedish club, IFK Goteborg, has rejected a proposal by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for midfielder Alhassan Yusuf to shuttle between the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland and Swedish league, Bestchoicesports.com.ng understands.
According to report, IFK Goteborg have already told NFF they will not release the former FC Hearts Star because they are battling an injury crisis and Yusuf is very much part of their first-team plans this season.
The IFK Goteborg sports director Kennet Andersson said after discussions with both the coaches and medical team, it was not possible for the player to shuttle for the Flying Eagles between the World Cup and his club.
He again restated the position of IFK Goteborg as regards the release of Alhassan Yusuf, maintaining that it was the decision of the club.
Yusuf, 18, has enjoyed a storming start to the new season.
He was Man of the Match in his first start against Helsinborg, he then helped IFK Goteborg to hold hosts Kalmar to a 1-1 draw, before playing a starring role in a 3-0 trouncing of champions AIK Solna.
