Did The NFF Offer Gernot Rohr A Life Contract?

Perhaps nobody saw it coming but the fact is that the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic that is ravaging the world today has provided breeding ground for more intrigues, drama, suspense and even deceits in the seemingly endless drama surrounding the new contract negotiation between Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report
The NFF and their employee, Rohr have been playing hide and seek ever since the contract saga started with the media playing into the hands of these men who want nothing but what promotes their personal interests.
In a space of two weeks, NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has appeared twisce on national television to talk on the same issue, to stretch out and prey for the sports journalists to feed own and be distracted from the realities on ground – that Nigeria football is in comatose.
From Future Eagles (Under 15 team) to the Super Falcons, there is no substantive head coach. Super Eagles coaching position has been up in the air since last year yet the drama seems to have endless and meaningless act and scenes.
The relationship between NFF and Rohr right now is like a boil in the middle of a lizard’s throat – when removed, the lizard would die, if left, the lizard would still not survive.
A look at this very scene of the drama suffices: “The NFF wants to sack Gernot Rohr but they don’t want to break the terms of his existing contract. Rohr is not ready to throw in the towel even though that is what the football house want him to do. They are in a dilemma, so they offered him a frustrating contract that will frustrate him to go but the German knows the game and has refused to bulge.
“Yes there is a contract on the table, yes the NFF is already talking with a few local coaches to be on standby hoping that Rohr will eventually bow to pressure and leave.
“Both camps are playing hide and seek. They are playing ‘boju boju’ with our football. Luckily for them, the Coronavirus epidemic has offered ample opportunity for this madness but for how long will they be playing with the sanity of Nigerians,” Adewale Ajayi posed on Thursday morning.
He continued “Rohr was given an extension to his existing contract before the 2018 world cup. That extension runs till June this year I think. Secondly he has the right of first refusal meaning the onus is on him to accept or reject an extension to his contract.
“Meaning, the NFF must do the needful by first offering him a contract hoping that he will say no based on the conditions or terms offered
“The sports ministry from my findings is interested and has asked for an explanation. The ministry wants to know the details of the contract and that is where we are presently.”
For how long will this insincere endless drama with many sub-plots halt? What is NFF afraid of in sacking Rohr? Did the NFF offer Rohr a life contract?
There was a report that he would sign his new contract today but we gathered authoritatively that such will not happen at least within the next few weeks as the hide and seek game continues. With the ministry of sports said to have keen interest in this, the waiting game continues.
