Super Eagles assistant coach, Yoseph Yobo has admitted he does not have a coaching certificate but insists he has what it takes to perform on the job, Bestchoicesports.com.ng understands.

Speaking on Nigeria Info Port Harcourt programme, Extra Time, the former national team captain was asked to confirm if he’s gotten his coaching certificate since his appointment.

“Yeah it’s in progress,” Yobo said

The former Everton man added that he would have concluded his coaching course “If not for this pandemic.”

“I haven’t finalized it, it’s in progress and everything is going to come through.”

Yobo was appointed assistant coach of the Super Eagles in February 2020 replacing Imama Amapakabo. But the decision generated a lot of controversy after head coach Gernot Rohr revealed the 2013 AFCON winning captain was yet to get his certificate.

However, Yobo insists he is capable of doing the job perfectly.

“I always let my work speak for me. Put me against somebody and watch what happens, not that I’m proud,” he said.

The Super Eagles assistant manager also believes the team needs an “interface between the players, coaches and the federation (NFF).” And that is the role he intends to play

“We have Gernot Rohr; he is the coach, the tactician. I am assisting him in things that maybe he does not see.

“I was the captain. The passion for this team is second to none. I am going to bring in my experience (and) belief,” Yobo added.

Yobo is Nigeria’s most capped player with 101 caps. He most famously captained Nigeria to her third Nations Cup trophy in South Africa in 2013.

He also featured in three world cups: 2002, 2010 and2014.
