Leon Balogun Stars In Rangers Win Over St Johnstone
By Our Correspondent
Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun was in superb form for his new club Rangers as his impeccable performance have help the side move top of the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers also paraded another Super Eagles player Joe Aribo who scored the third go of the Wednesday night clash against St Johnstone,
Steven Gerrard’s side thumped St Johnstone 3-0 at Ibrox to leapfrog Hibernian at the top of the table on goal difference.
Goals from Borna Barisic and Ryan Kent gave Rangers a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break, before Joe Aribo added a third within five minutes of the restart.
There were quite a few players who impressed fans of the Glasgow club, but many are praising Leon Balogun.
Gerrard snapped up the former Brighton centre-back on a Bosman last month and he certainly looks the part so far.
Balogun was brilliant in the first half alongside Connor Goldson, but the German powerhouse felt awkwardly just before the break and was replaced by Filip Helander.
But here’s how Rangers fans reacted to his first 45 minutes:
“Very impressed with Balogun so far. Praying he doesn’t get dropped when Helander is fully fit and doesn’t have to join the Niko Katic WhatsApp group” Shagger McGregor twitted
Another fan, Gaz, said “Is it just me or does Goldson look more composed with Balogun beside him.”
Nathyn Burett saidnof him “Big leon balogun is some player man doesn’t let anyone past him”
“León Balogun has been a rock in the heart of this Glasgow Rangers defence.
“If Rangers don’t concede in this game it ll be 3 games, 3 clean sheets,” Smoocho Danka said.
Murray Coghill saw it from a different angle, tweeting “It’s early days and he’ll have sterner tests to come but I really like the look of Leon Balogun. Quick, strong, good on the ball and seems a nice balance with him and Goldson.
“Also looks like he has the potential to go full Moshni.”
Hopefully for Rangers his withdrawal was only mere precaution, because he looks the business so far.
It’s early days, of course, but Goldson and he look relatively solid back there and the more they play together, the better they’ll become as a unit.
