The 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL will commence on November 15, 2020 and end in June 2021, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
The date was announced after a virtual meeting by the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday.
In a communiqué released at the end of the meeting, the NFF Executive Committee advised the League Management Company, LMC to ensure that the league commences on the 15 of November and ends in June 2020.
“Following from the lifting of ban on football activities in the country, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal by the League Management Company to fix the calendar for the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League to commence anytime from Sunday, 15th November 2020 and end the season by June 2021,” the release read.
The Executive Committee added however that the commencement of the league is subject to strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols and club licensing.
“With full adherence to the Federal Government’s COVID19 protocols and other requirements as may be prescribed.
“Full compliance with the Club Licensing regulations is mandatory for Clubs willing to take part in the NPFL.”
The board also mandated the other leagues management in the country, Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL; Nigeria National League, NNL and the Nationwide League One, NLO to ensure that their season synchronized with that of the NPFL.
It specifically directed them to ensure that their leagues commenced not later than three weeks after the resumption of the NPFL.
“The Executive Committee further mandated the NNL, NWFL and NLO to synchronize their calendars with that of the NPFL with each of them commencing within three weeks of the elite League.
“However, the Executive Committee made it clear that in line with the Federal Government’s directive, all football activities can commence immediately.”
It could be recalled that the NPFL and the NNL were aborted midway in March following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
The NWFL and the NLO which did not kickoff their season were set aside.
