By Amaechi Agbo
Nigeria’s first premier Independent football academy, Fosla Academy Saturday defeated Kwara State 1-0 in the ongoing North-Central zonal finals of the 2021 National Principal’s Cup in Jos.
Playing at the Jos Township Stadium, the Fosla boys who scored 13 goals and conceded just once en route to emerging FCT champions last week found the Kwara boys a hard nut to crack.
The first half of the match ended barren with the Karshi-based boys forcing the Kwara goalkeeper to two successive saves that would have changed the intensity of the game.
The commencement of the second half saw both teams missing scoring chances but Fosla, who are representing FCT at the zonal playoff, found the back of the net with few minutes to go.
Substitute, Nasiru Aminu was the hero of the day as his drive from the 6 yard box raised the curtain for jubilation from the camp of the FCT.
Meanwhile in the first match of the day, Kogi State, represented by Our Lady School thrashed Plateau United (Government Secondary School, GSS Gangare) by 4-1.
Husseni Yahaya registered his name in the top scorers chart as he scored a hat-trick while Hassan Yahaya scored the other
GSS’ consultation goal came off the boot of Awala Ali.
The win leaves Fosla second while Kogi is first in the standings but with superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, FCT Contingents have won 2 gold and 2 silver in the athletic events at the zone.
FCT Won 2 gold, one each from girls 4×100m race and long jump. However their boys could not replicate the girls’ stride as they won silver in 100m and long jump
In table tennis, FCT single players ranked second fiddle to their Kwara State counterparts who emerged champions in both boys and girls category.
Events at the Jos Centre of the Zonal playoffs will be rounded off on Sunday, March 21, 2021.
