Africa’s football umpire, the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF has threatened to ban South Africa Club, Mamelodi Sundowns at least for one year from participating in the Premier CAF Champions League, Bestchoiceaporta.com.ng can report.

CAF President, Patrice Motsepe disclosed this over the weekend.

The looming ban was as a result of selected Sundowns’ fans’
anti-Pitso Mosimane protest in the country when the team and Al Ahly of Egypt clashed in the second leg of the 2021 CAF champions League in the Orange country on Sunday.

This development, CAF has frowned at and it is understood that unless there is change in plans, the continent’s football body has launched investigation into the protest and CAF boss has disclosed that the full weight of the rule book will be brought down on Sundowns.

Motsepe has dedicated himself to start investigation regarding the mockery and the insults towards Pitso Mosimane.

“it will be easy to catch the perpetrators. Pitso Mosimane has all the clues and evidence in his devices. It seems like Someone planned this and recruited anti-Pitso Mosimane supporters to go harass him.

“Under Caf and under my watch someone has to be banned if he or she is inside Mamelodi Sundowns payroll. The supporters that will be identified will be banned and punished as well.

“We preach sportsmanship. Mamelodi Sundowns football club itself also cannot escape the punishment,” he said.

Adding, “The penalty might be financial for Mamelodi Sundowns or to be banned not to participate in Caf Champions League next season. If they won’t participate, number two and number three on the table will take their place to take part in Caf Champions League.

“Then number 4 will take the Caf Confederations Cup spot. But until the investigation is done, we will know,” Motsepe said.

Coincidentally, Mamelodi Sundowns is owned by the CAF boss.

Mosimane became the manager of Mamelodi Sundowns in 2012. He won the 2016 CAF Champions League with Sundowns after defeating Egypt’s Zamalek 3–1 on aggregate, making them the 2nd South African side to win it after Orlando Pirates in 1995.

However, Mosimane who is generally regarded as the most successful manager in South African football history, winning five ABSA Premiership titles with Mamelodi Sundowns in late September 2020, resigned as Mamelodi Sundowns coach.

On 30 September 2020, Mosimane was announced as the head coach of Al Ahly of Egypt

On the 27th of November 2020, Mosimane led Al Ahly to their 9th CAF Champions league title, after winning the 2020 final against their rivals Zamalek, and to qualify to the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup, where they eventually finished in third place after beating Palmeiras on penalties.

It’s believed that -Pitso Mosimane’s resignation from Sundowns did not go down well with many of the club’s sympathisers.
