The one-day taekwondo competition will see 12 youth taekwondoists vie for gold at the Nigeria Tulip International College, Wuse 2, Abuja.
In what is a novel initiative, the youngsters will be slugging it out in round robin format on a competitive 6m x 6m fighting arena, across two weight categories, with each competitors guaranteed to go home with various amounts of prizes.
The 12 invited athletes including 6 female cadets and 6 male juniors from 10 states will descend on the capital city Abuja as a new birth of Nigeria taekwondo begins
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Engr. Chika Chukwumerije, Member, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation Caretaker Committee, said the essence of the competition is to signpost the rich potentials of Nigeria athletes in Taekwondo and chart a new path for the sport in the country.
He said the 12 athletes were selected from 10 states across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The states are Nasarawa, Kano, Benue, Bauchi, Abia, Yobe, Kaduna, FCT, Lagos and Cross River.
All the states and the 12 athletes are gearing up for the great tournament.
The competition is sanctioned by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, NTF and approved by the International Taekwondo Federation, ITF as a global ranking competition.
