By Amaechi Agbo
The representative of Technical Officials at the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF board, Mr Nwadeih Christopher has asserted that his victory at the September 19 Technical/Athletes Representatives Election was victory for continuity, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Mr Nwadeih had an exclusive chat with our Editor, Amaechi Agbo at the Gymnastics Indoor Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja venue of the election where he explained his mission to the soon to be constituted NWF new board .
How do you feel over your victory today?
To say I am very happy will be an understatement. I am very glad with the outcome of the result.
My victory means that I will continue from where I stopped. Continue with our winning streak.
Africa Games Performance
Recall that in 12th African Games where Nigeria participated in 22 sports, Nigeria Weightlifting emerged the best by winning 47 medals in total with 16 gold. So I want to continue in that stead.
Focus on Commonwealth Games
Already our focus will be on the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to see how we will qualify our athletes for the Birmingham 2022 Games and win medals. To go there and ensure victory for our country.
How would you improve the coaches?
I am going to synergize with the marketing committee of the federation to see how we are going to source for fund so that we will be able to sponsor competitions at different levels both at the youth, junior and senior levels.
By the time we give these athletes more exposure, it will also bring about improvement and development of the coaches. So I am going to focus on that area seriously.
2024 Olympics?
Yes, by the grace of God we will be at the Paris Olympics.
NWF missed out at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics?
Nigeria Weightlifting Federation would have been represented at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan, unfortunately we missed the last qualification event for the Games essentially due to Covid-19 lockdown.
Taking our bearing from what happened last time, we are going to start preparing towards the next Olympic Games.
I want to assure you that by the grace of God, weightlifting will be represented at the forthcoming Olympics.
