The club owners in the Nationwide League One, NLO have reacted bitterly to the management of Nigeria’s third tier football, concerning the newly adopted six-month duration for the upcoming season slated to kickoff on the 9th of March to 31st of August, 2022.

This is coming after the largest grassroot body in the country released notifications signed by its Chief Operating Officer, Olusola Ogunnowo – informing clubs under its jurisdiction of its 2022 calendar of activities, including online registration, commencement of divisions 1,2,3, stadium inspection, etc.

Speaking on the newly released timetable, a host of club owners have been appealing to the league body to consider the cost implications it will have on them – playing ten matches in six months.

A club owner, who spoke on the basis of anonymity is appealing that the NLO look into it to enable clubs work within the strength of their budgets.

“The NLO should please do something about it. It’s not realistic playing 10 matches in six months. We will pay our officials and players, among other expenses. This will have a devastating effect on our budget for the year. Looking at the current economic situation in the country, it will be difficult for most of us that work on budget. Please, the NLO should see what to do about it.”
