After two months of hiatus, the Nigeria National League, NNL will resume on March 14, 2020, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The new date for resumption of the league branded as the “most important league” in the country was announced Thursday by the league’s President of Presidents, Abdul Sule.

In a meeting chaired by the Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick which held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 the Executive Committee studied and discussed a number of issues notably raised by the NNL Club Owners at the Abuja meeting.

The Wednesday meeting also had in attendance, NNL Chairman, Chidi Offor.

Among the resolutions reached were the recommencement of the league on Saturday, March 14, 2020; sanctions to be meted out on referees who performed below expected standard in their league matches and collaboration between the NFF and the ministry of sports to get private investors to adopt the NNL as well as a proposed meeting between the two to secure potential sponsors for the league.

It could be recalled that the NNL went on a two-week Christmas break but when it was expected to resume in January, it was suspended indefinitely.

In a release signed by the league’s media officer Amar Ignis on January 9, 2020, it stated that “The 2020 Nigeria National League, the country’s next important Football League will not resume tomorrow Friday 10th, 2020 as earlier scheduled.

“You will recall that the Middle League went on a two weeks  Christmas break as demanded by club owners and granted by the League management, to enable stakeholders stay with their family members and loved ones.

The two weeks break was embarked upon on Sunday 22nd of December, 2019.

“The NNL, which regrets that the  League will not resume this weekend as planned, informs that the latest decision is necessitated by the current discussions between the NNL management and relevant authorities of the parent body, the Nigeria Football Federation, the NFF on crucial and critical issues raised by  NNL Club Owners, Proprietors and Managers Meeting held in Abuja, which has been communicated to the NNL.

“The Nigeria National League, will revert to the clubs and stakeholders when the League will now resume as soon as an understanding is reached in the ongoing parley with the authorities.”

Despite the resolutions reached and decisions taken, the managers of the league are yet to tell Nigerians and the outside world what led to the indefinite suspension of the league for two months
