The President if the Republic of Ghana, Nana Dankwa Addo Akufo-Addo is confident the current crop of Black Stars players can reverse the misfortune of the 2010 World Cup experience ahead of the 2022 Qatar showpiece

The Ghanaian leader remains defiant about the chances of the team insisting the hunger in the team will make them thrive at the global tournament.

The Black Stars have drawn old acquittances Portugal and Uruguay as well as South Korea in Group H in the group stage of the mundial in Qatar.

Ghana, four-time African champions are returning to the global stage since missing out on the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The team is under the new technical leadership of Otto Addo with support from George Boateng, Mas-Ud Dramani and advisor Chris Houghton.

Despite the daunting task confronting the Ghanaians, who qualified at the expense of their West African rivals Nigeria, president Akufo Addo is buoyant about the team’s chances to exorcise the pain of 2010 when the team Uruguay denied the team a semi-final berth after the famous Luiz Suarez ‘handball’.

The President who is a Tottenham Hotspur supporter said. “The new coach of Ghana has done a good job especially in mobilising some of the younger – if you like, unknown and ‘untried’ players but technically gifted and talented,”

“I think that these competitions usually when you go there with people who are hungry to make a name for themselves to prove themselves, you are probably in a good space.

“I have no doubt that it will be a motivating factor. They will be very cautious of it and hopefully reverse the result of the 2010 experience [against Uruguay].”

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24 at the Stadium 974 in Doha before facing South Korea at the Educatin City Stadium Al Rayyan four days later.

The team will wrap up their Group H campaign with a mouth-watering fixture against nemesis Uruguay on December 2 at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah.

At the 2010 World Cup, Ghana exited the competition following a 4-2 penalty shoot-out defeat to La Celeste after Asamoah Gyan spurned a last-gasp penalty to win the game for the Black Stars in extra-time.
