The August 2022 FIFA ranking for female football came out this week with no surprising result for Super Falcons of Nigeria.

Coached by Randy Waldrum of America, the Super FALCONS failed to defend their 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON trophy in Morocco last month

The team, following unenviable performance, ended the tournament fourth after winning three and losing same number of games in the tournament held in Morocco

Consequently, the nine-time Africa champions dropped seven places from 39th to 46th position in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking on Friday.

Despite dropping in the ranking, the Falcons however, remain number one in Africa.

Current Africa champions Banyana Banyana of South Africa moved up from 58th spot to 54th and are now second on the continent.

Hosts and runners-up at the last WAFCON Morocco climbed to 76th while bronze medalist Zambia now occupy 80th.

New European champions Three Lionesses of England climb four places to number four in the world.

Germany, who lost to England in the European Championship final, climbed three spots to number two.

Reigning world champions United States of America maintained their number one spot
