The game of Football offers its competitors and even fans memorable moments that will last for a lifetime.

Former Super Eagles defensive midfielder Sani Kaita is famously remembered for his inglorious 2010 FIFA World Cup red card vs Greece, an expulsion many Nigerians hold responsible for the Eagles group stage outster in South Africa.

Sani Kaita got the marching orders for Violent conduct in the 33rd minute as he kicked out at Vassidis Torosidis after the Greece player hit his chest with the ball in a touchline incident.

The Referee sent Kaita off for violent conduct, the midfielder aghast as he walked off the turf with his shirt pulled over his head in dissapointment as he became the first Nigerian to be sent off via a red card during a World Cup game.

With the Eagles down to ten men, Greece got an equalizer 11 minutes after Kaita’s sending off and subsequently claimed maximum points in a 2-1 win.

Many Nigerians believe that his red card cost Nigeria the game.

The aftermath of the red card was not pleasing to Keita’s football career and his life.

Sani received over 1000 death threats from football enthusiasts via his mail, Twitter and other social media sites.

The red card marked the end of his international career with the Super Eagles, he returned to Nigeria league with FC Ifeanyi Ubah in 2014-15 season and retired from football in 2017.

His 22 caps for the Super Eagles came to an end in 2010 ending five years (2005-2010) international football career.
