WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Robbed in Casablanca Hotel as Five Players Lose Cash

Ahead of the opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations between Algeria and Morocco on Sunday in Morocco, defending champions, Nigeri’s Super falcons players are in bad mood following reported theft of their cash stolen from their hotel wallets while lodging at the Casablanca Marriott Hotel in Morocco.
The incident took place during their final preparation camp ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with five players losing over a thousand dollars in total. \
The players allege that hotel cleaning personnel took advantage of housekeeping hours to steal over $1,250 in total physical cash from their rooms while they were away.the affected players are: Esther Okoronkwo, captain, Raseedat Ajibade, Joy Omewa, Osinachi Ohale and Halimat Ayinde.
The breakdown of missing cash per player includes:
Esther Okoronkwo: $700
Rasheedat Ajibade: $200
Joy Omewa: $120
Osinachi Ohale: $100
Halimatu Ayinde: $100 [1]
According to report, Esther Okoronkwo stated that she formally confronted the hotel authorities, but they offered no satisfactory answers and were dismissive.
Fans and camp observers have expressed fury on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, demanding that the hotel review its inner CCTV footage to track the staff movements.
Despite the psychological distraction, the ten-time African champions are continuing their preparation under head coach Justine Madugu. The team is scheduled to relocate to Rabat, where they will open their WAFCON campaign against Malawi on Tuesday.
The Nigeria Football Federation is yet to issue a statement on the alleged theft.
