The stadium lights of Santiago seemed a world away from the dusty pitches of Mindelo where Josimar Dias, known to football fans as Vozinha, first learned to dive for a ball. Yet, here he was, pen in hand, signing an 18-month contract with Chilean powerhouse Colo Colo.

At 40 years old, Vozinha had just written the definition of a fairytale ending—or perhaps, a thrilling new chapter.

Just weeks earlier, the veteran Cape Verdean goalkeeper had stood between the posts at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. No one expected the Blue Sharks to make waves, and fewer expected their veteran captain to steal the global spotlight. But as the tournament progressed, Vozinha became an impenetrable wall. He defied age with cat-like reflexes, denied world-class strikers, and carried his nation through a historic knockout run that captivated fans across the globe.

While the football world watched in disbelief, the scouting department at Colo Colo saw exactly what they needed. The Chilean giants were hunting for a proven leader, someone with iron nerves and elite experience to anchor their defense for the upcoming seasons. Vozinha’s breakout tournament made him the perfect target.

Negotiations moved swiftly. Colo Colo presented a structured 18-month deal, offering the veteran keeper a chance to test his skills in the fierce atmosphere of South American football.
