Newcomers, Akwa Starlets Monday gained promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL for the 2019/10 season, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Akwa Starlets of Akwa Ibom shocked 3SC of Ibadan, Oyo state 3-0 in a playoff match keenly contested at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba Delat State on Monday. 3SC had gone into the match as bookmakers favourite to pick the maximum points and return to the league.
Former league campaigners, Jigawa Golden Stars, Adamawa United and Warri Wolves also returned to the league for the 2019/20 season after recording wins from their match centres in the playoff
Jigawa Golden Stars defeated FCT side, NAF FC 3-2 to pick the Jos ticket; Adamawa United defeated another FCT club, Road Safety 2-1 to pick the sole ticket in Makurdi while Warri Wolves laboured till penalty shootout to dispatch Dynamites Force 5-3 in Enugu to return to the NPFL.
Jigawa Golden Stars last appeared in the NPFL in 2012, Adamawa United last featured in the league in 2001 whereas Warri Wolves played last in the elite league in 2016
