Former FC Barcelona winger, Emmanuel Amuneke has offered pieces of advice to new coach of the La Liga giants, Ronald Koeman.

Koeman was announced Wednesday as the new coach of the 2018/2019 La Liga champions following the sacking of former coach Quique Setien.

Koeman was on Wednesday unveiled as Setien’s successor and former player of the club, Amuneke who coached Nigeria’s U-17 Golden Eaglets to World Cup victory in 2015, reckons that Koeman came to Barcelona at a time things are down but offered him advice on what to do to steady the drowning ship.

“Koeman has a lot of experience when it comes to coaching and we should not forget that this is someone that have played for the clubs. Remember that he was a Barcelona player and during his time he contributed to a lot of success of the club.

“I think he with other players during his time inspired a lot of people and generations with the style of football they played during their time in the early 80’s and 90’s.

“I think having the opportunity now to come and coach Barcelona, he was in the club once as an assistant coach during my time in the backroom staff.

“The good thing is that, yes, we all understood the situation that Barcelona is in right, but someone has to assume responsibility. Someone has to do the best to see where Barcelona can come back to the normal track that they have set in the past.

“So it is a very good one and we wish Koeman all the best. I know coaching an institution like this requires a lot of discipline, commitment and vision.

“We wish him all the best and hope he can turn things around for Barcelona fans and the club as an institution.”
