The appointment of former Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi as the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sports, has been described as a deserved elation, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

Media Aide to the minister of youth and sports, Kola Daniel stated this on Wednesday.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Abuja, Mr Kola who described Amokachi as a great friend, loyal and patriotic Nigerian, said his new position as Special Assistant to President Mihammadu Buhari on sports matters justifies his (Amaokchi’s) meritorious service to the country.

“Daniel Amokachi’s appointment is quite a deserving one.
Amokachi have served this country meritoriously. During his playing days, you and I know that he was a versatile player in the field of play; full of energy, force and stamina and he translated that into coaching. He is a long time friend of mine, loyal and patriotic,” Mr Kola said.

The foremost sports journalist enumerated successes that endeared Amaokchi to the heart of the President to include his triumph as coach of the CHAN Eagles that won WAFU Cup in Abeokuta, Ogun state, his trumphy with coach Stephen Keshi in 2013 AFCON, his triumph in 1994 AFCON as a player, among others

“It is so unfortunate that his career was truncated by injury but he came into coaching with a lot of intense which yielded results.

“Amokachi won as a coach, CHAN Super Eagles in Abeaokuta with the likes of Ahmed Musa, Gabriel Reuben, Solomon Okpaku were in that team. He was the coach who won the WAFU Cup for Nigeria.

“He was the coach of U-23 before and do not forget he has coached Nasarawa United and Enyimba and assisted Coach Stephen Keshi in 2013 and they won the Africa Cup of Nations for the 3rd time for the country.

“He also won the AFCON as a player in 1994 and in 1996 won gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in USA.

“I think his success stories speak for him and it is on these bases that the President, Muhammadu Buhari deemed it necessary to give him this exalted position.

“Amaokachi’s SA on Sports to the President, is quite deserving, laudable and worthy of note because someone in the sporting family has been rewarded as Special Assistant on Sports.

“There is no better way to say congratulations to my namesake, talking about Daniel Amokachi, Da Bull.”
