English Premier League giants, Chelsea Football Club have announced the appointment of Laurence Stewart as the club’s new technical director.

Currently working at Monaco, Stewart will form part of a transfer ‘brain-trust’ collaborating closely with fellow new appointments Kyle Macaulay and Joe Shields. Chelsea could also appoint Brighton’s head of recruitment Paul Winstanley.

Stewart has worked within the Red Bull network at Leipzig, and also at Manchester City, Everton and the FA.

A statement from Chelsea owner Boehly read:
“Laurence is a world-class football leader who understands talent management, data and scouting, player development and performance.”

Meanwhile, Stewart said: “I’m delighted to be joining Chelsea and excited about the vision and direction of the club under the new ownership group”

Stewart’s arrival is the first nod towards a multi-club model. Chelsea see themselves as building a group and will be far more focused on both youth (not just finding but developing ‘in-house’) and data than under Roman Abramovich.
