Coach Michael Nsien, a US-based Nigerian coach, says the Super Eagles of Nigeria are the top favorite to clinch fourth Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2022, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Nigeria currently has three of the continental diadem in her archive but Coach Nsien believes a fourth one is a huge possibility for the country when the 33rd edition of the biennial championship gets underway in Cameroon in 2022.
The head coach of USL Championship side, FC Tulsa, believes Nigeria stands tall at emerging champions at the 2022 AFCON if proper coordination of the team is put in place.
The Super Eagles were the 3rd best team in the continent after picking up a bronze medal at the 2019 edition of the tournament held in Egypt.
The 39-year-old tactician said he expects the 2013 AFCON champions to win the tournament in Cameroon with a solid back line.
“Looking at the current group of players, we have the potentials to win the Nations Cup in Cameroon,” Nsien started in an exclusive interview with NSM Rebranded, a foremost Nigeria WhatsApp sports page on Thursday.
“We have world class players and quality all over the field. We need to identify a solid back four to ensure that the game is tight.
“We need players that can shore up things and stay connected as a group.
The former national team players added: “You don’t lose games when you don’t concede goals.”
The 33rd edition of the AFCON was originally scheduled to place between 9 January and 6 February, 2021.
The Preliminary rounds and two group stages qualifying rounds had been played between 9 October and 19 November, 2019.
The 3rd and 4th group stage qualifying rounds that were scheduled to take place between (23rd to 31st March 2020) and (1st to 9th June 2020) respectively were postponed and all qualifying rounds rescheduled due to the Coronavirus outbreak in Africa.
Nigeria currently tops Group L of the qualifiers with a maximum 6 points from 2 matches.
