Commissioner Halts Encroachment, Abuse of Dan Anyiam Stadium

Imo State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Hon. Dan Chike Ogu has ordered an immediate stop to the use of Dan Anyiam Stadium premises as a bypass by motorists plying the Wetheral Road in Owerri who had no business with sports.
The commissioner who was on an inspection to the stadium earlier this week alongside the Commissioner for Special Projects, Hon. Simon Ebegbulam also directed for the re- fencing of part of complex where the Relief Market had spread into the entrance gate of the Grasshoppers International Stadium.
Ogu directed that the main entrance gate to the Dan Anyiam Stadium be put under lock and key to both private and commercial vehicles who are using it as unauthorized by-pass of Fire-Service Round-about to join the Owerri-Umuahia Road from Wetheral Road.
As an option, he requested that a slab should be re-cast on the gutter that prevented motorists from using the proper connecting road near the Stadium wall to into Wetheral Road.
According to the Commissioner, a new gate will also be mounted at spot exiting the stadium to join the road that leads opposite the Fire-Service Police Station.
Traders from the Relief Market axis following the road and dismountled Stadium wall had encroached deeply into the part of the stadium displaying their wares which the commissioner said, was unacceptable.
Ogu and his team also took cursery notice of the abandoned multi-million naira corporate headquarters of the Ministry of Sports biulding built by the Rescue Mission Administration along Wetheral Road but which was said to have failed quality standard test.
