As thick cloud continues to hover over the September 30 Nigeria Football Federation, NFF proposed election, divergent views have followed the meeting between the sports minister, Sunday Dare and the NFF presidential aspirants.

The election for a new board into the NFF is slated for Benin City, Edo State capital on Friday but series of court cases have threatened the process

The sports minister on Tuesday met with the 11 presidential candidates for the election with some of the candidates who participated in the meeting expressing different views as it relates to the election.

While the FCT Football Association chairman, Mouktar Mohammed believes that they would abide by the court order, outgoing 1st Vice President, Seyi Akinwumi said that campaign will continue irrespective of the court process

Moukhtar who spoke with journalists after the meeting said the aspirants agreed to abide by the Court Order adding that the Electoral Committee also had to consider security reports concerning the election.

“It is a meeting of stakeholders with the Minister of Sports. The Minister is the leader of Sports in Nigeria and we oblige the meeting to have a dialogue regarding issues on ground.

“There are some decisions that we expect the Electoral Committee to look at that has to do with advise from security agencies. Of course, there is a court order, we all know. We are all law abiding citizens and so we will see to it.

“In the coming days, the court order can be vacated but as law abiding citizens we will follow what court said. It is an ongoing discussion. There is no conclusion yet.

“In the next few days we will hear more. We hope that at the end of the day, there would be a credible process acceptable to everyone for football to begin to flourish again,” he said.

On his part, Mr Seyi Akinwunmi who is a Barrister, said that every candidate will continue to campaign ahead of the election despite the court order as he hopes election will hold on the planned date.

“We just had discussion as to where we are heading to in Nigeria football. It was a successful deliberation and there is nothing that makes anyone frown. Nothing controversial beyond the fact that we are all going back to continue our campaign ahead of the election.”

A Federal High Court Abuja in an ex-parte order on September 15, directed the scheduled NFF Elective Congress to be out on hold pending the adjudication of motion on notice against the process.
