It was drama at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday as a ball Boy was “removed” from the pitch by steward after he delayed in giving the ball out.

Tottenham winger Lucas Moura was involved in an ugly incident with a ball boy at Bournemouth during his side’s stirring 3-2 victory against the Cherries. Spurs looked on their way to another disappointing defeat when they went 2-0 down at the Vitality courtesy of a brace from Kieffer Moore.

Lucas, who has only recently returned from injury, replaced Oliver Skipp as a substitute at half-time in order to try to help his side complete the comeback. With the scores level at 2-2 and Spurs pressing for a winner, he raced off the pitch in order to try and take a quick throw-in.

However, he was left frustrated when a Bournemouth ball boy took his time in giving the ball to him.

BBC Sports reported that Lucas angrily wrestled the ball away from the youngster, who was left visibly shaken by the incident.

He was then escorted away from the pitch by a steward and down the tunnel, and did not participate in the remainder of the match.

This was Spurs’ first victory in four games following defeats to Manchester United and Newcastle in the Premier League and a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon in Europe.

And it will give them a much-needed confidence boost going into Tuesday’s crucial clash with Marseille, in which they must avoid defeat in order to progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Speaking after the Bournemouth win, manager Antonio Conte could not hide his relief at picking up the three points on the South Coast. “It was vital to win this game because in the last two games in the Premier League we got zero points,” he said
