Former Super Eagles Coach. Gernot Rohr will be on a “revenge mission” when he leads his wads the Cheetahs of Benin Republic against his former employers in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In the World Cup qualifiers draw released Thursday by Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, Nigeria and Benin Republic are paired in Group C along with South Africa, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Lesotho

Rohr was dismissed by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF in December 2021 less than three weeks to the commencement of 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Cameroon.

Rohr was out of job for more than a year before he signed a three-year deal with the Benin Football Association to become their new coach in February this year

As Super Eagles Coach, Rohr qualified the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, won bronze at 2019 AFCON in Egypt. And also qualified them for the 2022 Afcon in Cameroon but was unceremoniously dismissed by the FA who accused him of poor performances.

However, he will be leading the Cheetahs against his former employers as both nations will clash in a two-leg encounters in the qualifiers which starts in November 2023.

Benin Republic are 3rd in Group J of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers with five points from five matches. They will take on second-placed Mozambique on September 8 final qualifier away in a must-win encounter
