Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac has played down the Black Stars early elimination from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Ghana were knocked out of the group stages of the AFCON for the first time in 16 years after they failed to win a match in Group C that had Morocco, Gabon and debutants, Comoros Island.

The four-time Africa champions Tuesday evening suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of their Comoros counterpart in a game they needed to win to advance to the knockout stage of the competition.

Having conceded an early goal and with captain Andre Ayew receiving a red card in the 25th minute, Ghana ended up losing after 90 minutes.

Speaking at his post-match interview, Coach Milovan Rajevac sounded bullish when asked if he would resign following the disastrous outing by the Ghanian team.

The Serbian tactician who replaced Charles Akonnor in September last year played down the damaging image of the exit from the competition.

He declared that he came to qualify Ghana to this year’s Worlds Cup and not to win the AFCON.

“I came to Ghana to qualify the team for the World Cup. That is my primary target,” he said

Adding that he would lead the team to the World Cup play-off in March

“I will stay and lead the team in the March play-offs.”
