Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the 2020 Olympics table tennis in Tokyo Japan, got on a winning start as the trio of Aruna Quadri, Omotayo Olajide and Edem Offiong won their first matches at the ongoing 2020 ITTF Africa Championship, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report


Africa’s number one ranked tennis player, Aruna Quadri defeated Hmam Adam of Tunisia 3-0 while Omotayo Olajide beat Kassa Gideon 3-1 win Gideon.


Edem Offiong triumphed 3-0 over Saidani Safa of Tunisia in women’s single. Safa lost 3-1(11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 6-11) to the Offiong. The home favorite, could not withstand the comeback of Edem Offiong after taking the first game during their first round encounter.


Aruna and Quadri Omotayo Olajide are drawn in Group 3 and 1 respectively in the men’s singles of the ITTF Africa Top16 holding from Feb 24-26 in Tunisia.


The tournament also serves as the qualifying event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan
