The Federal Capital Territory, FCT will be a beehive of football hostilities as De Warriors FC and N-Youth Sports Academy square up in the opening match of the 2022 AMAC Football Coaches Unity Cup Tournament

Tagged “Unity Cup”, a total of 16 teams have been penciled down to battle one another for the coveted trophy.

De Warriors FC and N-Youth Sports Academy will square up in the opening match of the day by 12noon at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Garki, Abuja.

In other matches lined up for the opening day, Pride FC will take on Daniel Football Academy while Turf Arena FC will battle Tiki-Taka FC International.

The last match of the day will see Zango Football Academy trade tackles with Rising Stars.

Speaking in an interview, the Leader of the AMAC Football Coaches Council, Mr Kenny Owojori said the continuation of the Unity Cup Tournament is part of their mandates to sustain and keep nurturing grassroots football development in the FCT.

Mr Owojori noted that sustenance of the competition as well as welfare of his members remain paramount in his administration.

“This is the 3rd edition of the competition and we are improving along the line in terms of organization as well as number of participating teams.

“Organising the Unity Cup is part of our mandate as a council in sustaining grassroots football development in the FCT. We are also taking the welfare of our members seriously as we go along,” he said.

Coach Owojori called for sponsors to enable the council expand the number of participating teams and cautioned players and officials to play by the rules

“Yes, we need sponsors. Sponsors and the Media are key components to the source of this competition and we believe that if we have sponsorship, we will expand the number of participating teams to accommodate more.

“I appeal and at the same time warn coaches and players to play by the rules of the game. Professional referees in the premier league are the ones to take charge of the Unity Cup Tournament, so all rules must be applied.”

Digital Foot Footbal Club are the defending champions of the tournament.

The club defeated A.M.U. Football Academy 4-3 on penalty shootout in the final after regulation time ended in a stalemate at the Area 3 playground on Friday, 18th June 2021.
