Seven Months after his appointment as the Super Falcons coach, American Randy Waldrum has not received a salary from his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.
Randy Wadrum was in October 2020 contracted by the NFF to handle the Super Falcons who are current Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, AWCON holders.
However, it has emerged that the NFF has not paid the American after being in office for more than half a year.
BBC reporter, Osasu Obayiuwana, who disclosed this on Monday, said that unnamed official of the NFF divulge the information to him.
“And there’s more,” he tweeted “@RWSuperFalcons @CoachWaldrum, the coach of @NGSuper_Falcons, has not been paid a wage since he was appointed in October 2020, according to an informed @thenff official,” the former member of NFF Reform committee said.
On October 5, 2020, Waldrum was appointed the head coach of Nigeria women’s national football team, barely three years after turning down the role.
His first assignment was participation in the 2021 Turkey Invitational (Turkish Women’s Cup)
tournament where the Falcons emerged champions.
Nigeria emerged as the first African side to claim the Turkish Women’s Cup on their first-ever appearance after humiliating Equatorial Guinea 9-0 on Tuesday.
The nine-time Africa Women’s Cup of Nations winners opened their outing on a high, with a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow before edging Uzbekistan by the same scoreline to inch closer to the crown.
The four-nation invitational tournament success was the first in history for Nigeria in Europe and the first crown under Waldrum.
When contacted for his views, the General Secretary of the NFF, Dr Mohammed Sanusi referred our correspondent to the federation’s Technical Director, Mr Augustine Eguaveon.
However, calls put across to the Director’s mobile phone number were unanswered just as our SMS enquiry sent to the same number was not responded to at the time of filing this report.
