Niger Sports Commissioner Hosts Sports Festival Contingents
Niger State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development Mister Emmanuel Umar hosted the State contingent to the recently concluded National Sports Festival Edo 2020.
The meeting which took place at the Ministry’s conference hall, had in attendance, some Athletes/Officials and Senior Officers of the ministry to keenly xray the State recent outing at the Sports Festival, taking into cognizance the challenges and successes recorded at the event, with a view to chatting a way forward in subsequent outings, especially, as the next edition which is scheduled to take place in Asaba Delta in 2021 draws near.
Mr. Emmanuel while addressing the Athletes/Officials, commended their effort for putting up a spirited performance despite challenges.
He said the essence of the meeting, which is first in history, after a major competition, is an idea birthed to respond to critical challenges and build on successes recorded the for future events.
Some of the challenges identified during the meeting included inducement of Athletes by the Big States, Training Facilities, Welfare of Athletes among others.
Responding Mr. Emmanuel while acknowledging shortage of training facilities for athletes in the State said all hands would be on deck to ensure a speedy completion of Ahmadu Bahago Multiple purpose sports complex, adding that the State handball complex is wearing a new look as a result of the State Government intervention, stressing that, other sports facilities would be accorded similar attention ones funds are available.
The commissioner added that under his stewardship, welfare and wellbeing of athletes will remain a priority.
Niger State finish 22nd on the log at the just concluded National Sports festival with a total of 12 medals including 3 Golds, 2 Silvers and 7 bronzes.
